Vote for Delimiter to be Australia’s best blog

42

hi everyone,

BB2013-PCA-vote

hope you had a great Easter long weekend! Personally I’m a little shocked to be back at work after a busy weekend variously spent with the family, at a Zen meditation retreat and just chilling out cooking up a batch of curry in the crock pot. It’s almost winter — time to get those slow-cooking recipes out ;) Plus there was some Heart of the Swarm in there.

Anyway, I thought it worth letting you know that this year Delimiter has entered this year’s Best Australian Blogs Competition run by the Australian Writers’ Centre. Normally we don’t go in for awards very much — positive words from readers are normally more than enough. However, this year a few readers have been pushing us to enter, so we thought we’d capitulate and go along with their wishes.

With this in mind, if you’d like to vote for Delimiter to win the ‘People’s Choice Award’ as part of the competition, we encourage you to do so. This component of the competition is done purely by voting. All you need to do is head to their site and complete the handy survey they’ve got set up. You can vote for multiple blogs, so we’d be mighty chuffed if you included us on the list ;)

Anyway, apologies for that brief interlude, and now back on with the show!

Cheers,

Renai LeMay
Editor + Publisher, Delimiter

    • “In terms of our editorial style, we’re not a traditional news site such as that might be operated by a newspaper; but we’re not a purely opinion-based site either. And although we do reviews, we’re not a pure reviews house. Our style contains all of these elements and more, but we’re not bound by any of them. Delimiter is something more complex. The best words that could describe what we do are “blog” and also “community”.”

      • Well blog or no blog (I’ve never thought of Delimiter as a blog, although I will just for voting purposes) its still my favourite Aussie tech site. (Now that I’ve said that, please make sure I am randomly chosen as the winner of Delimiter’s next gadget give away ;-) )

        • We’re actually a mix — from our about page:

We do a lot of news, sure, but a lot of opinion and analysis, and a lot of out and out linking to others. I prefer the term “online media outlet”, but I know a lot of people think of us primarily as a blog, and we’ve been going increasingly that way for the last couple of years. Not quite sure where our reviews fit into that mix.

      • As law blogs are called blawgs… maybe as a news blog you should be called a bnewg!

Pronounced bee-new-geh or Bee-noor-geh it sounds either science fictiony or something you should excuse yourself for whilst in polite company

  1. Hard to go past those news.com.au blogs. Delimiter is up against some crazy good competition.

    /end sarcasm.

    • I actually think the toughest competition is actually likely to come from the plethora of women’s blogs which have no doubt entered — from memory they tend to win ;)

      • Are there categories? Like IT, Fashion, pure marketing of crap, Health, Beauty, pure marketing of other crap? Good luck if it’s just an award for who has the most lemmings.

        • If it’s just a lemming show, you get perverse outcomes like science denial blogs winning awards for ‘Best Science Blog’, as happened for the Bloggies just recently.

But I’ll be putting in my 2c anyway.

          • I missed that one. That’s a disgrace! Not just that a pseudo-science site could win in a science category, but that a pseudo-science site would have more traffic and votes than one promoting actual science. Depressing :-(

        • I’m not sure if there are categories — I think it’s all lumped into one etc. Apparently about 1,000 blogs have entered. Of course, most of them would be quite small etc.

          • Some of them are actually tumblr accounts, though from what I have read most of them sorely need that prize of a $1000 in writing courses.

Hopefully that includes grammar and spelling courses as well.

You just want the pretty badge don’t you Renai? ;)

  2. And not a single story yesterday about Labor ditching FTTP for Wireless, Turnbull releasing a fullly-costed policy for FTTP, and Alan Jones spruiking the FTTP investments around the globe…. disappointing :(

  3. Oh noes! There were so many choices I got confused and I think I ended voting for something called YummyTummy or something. Oh well. Maybe next year. ;)

  4. Voted. A shame these things go on popularity by numbers – as we’ve established, the polls demonstrate that the majority of Australians are less interested in evidence and reason compared to whim, propaganda and prejudice. But you know, maybe if you do ok more people will hear about the great work you’re doing and maybe it will help to educate some of them. Worth a shot, eh? ;-)

  5. “The winner of this award round will receive $1000 in writing courses the Australian Writers’ Centre.” — appropriate, considering how many anti-NBN have complained about your so called lack of journalism :p

    Voted.
