iPad 2 queue starts at Sydney Apple store

Cheers to our friends at LogMeIn for this photo of a gentleman who has just claimed the title of first position in the line to buy an Apple iPad 2 when the device goes on sale on Friday night at 5pm. This photo was taken outside the Sydney CBD Apple store this afternoon.

Looks like he’s well prepared — with a tent, plenty of drinking water and a yellow suitcase, full of supplies, we assume. We’re not sure whether the iPad he’s holding is a first generation or second generation model, but it’s likely he’s already a contented Apple consumer and is looking to upgrade. We’ll head down tomorrow morning (Thursday) to conduct a video interview and to see how the poor chap held up after a night on the street.

  1. From what we saw he’s already holding the new gen iPad but he told us he’s looking to get is hands on 2 more.

  2. You write for a tech blog and dont know if a WHITE iPad is a version 1 or 2? Your an idiot!

    • Well, I did think it was an iPad 2, but from the photograph, I thought it might be one of the old ones with a cover … you have to hedge your bets ;)

Are you serious? It is white, has the person who wrote this article read anything about the iPad 2 at all? How many gen1 iPads do you know that were white? Yes. It is the 2nd Gen.

    • I’m also appalled Renai was not aware of this. I mean, it’s pretty much THE most important difference between the two generations! 1st Gen: Not available in white. 2nd Gen: Available in white. Magical!

  4. I fail to understand why the fanpeople upon queuing up like this. It’s ridiculous, makes them look like idiots and allows me to mock them for the reasons stated.

“Oh, look at me, I’m first in line for a shiny, overpriced, giant iPhone! Aren’t I special?”

No, you’re not, you’re a moron and make me ashamed to be a nerd.

    • It doesn’t seem to be about the iPad. It’s about the event around it. I’m with you on the whole queuing thing; not sure I’d get in line two days in advance but I can kind of understand some of the reasons why they’d want to get involved. Nothing wrong with being excited about something you’re passionate about.

  5. There’s excitement, and then there’s insanity. Walking into a store on launch day to buy something, taking it straight home and doing whatever it is you do with it it is excitement, Camping out to buy something is insanity.

  6. I’m second in line and I have a flight to Melb in the evening, right after getting the iPad 2. I’ll be using it to edit wedding videos! I’m also getting a second one to auction of for charity. Japan needs funds, people! Not everyone queueing is queueing just because they’re a fanboy. I’d switch to another product if and when it is better (IMO) that the iPad 2. ;)
