Suncorp inks Next G refresh deal

update Suncorp has signed a three-year contract with Telstra for an undisclosed value to deliver all of the finance giant’s mobile voice and data services and refresh its entire wireless data card fleet, leaving its existing supplier Optus out in the cold.

The pair said in a statement this morning that the deal would see Telstra’s top-line Turbo Elite modems rolled out within Suncorp. The statement also cryptically noted that the deal would see Telstra “reinstate its long-standing relationship with the financial services group”.

A Suncorp spokesperson later added that the company’s existing supplier was Optus, and that Telstra would be providing Suncorp with both 16GB and 32GB iPhone 3G models, as well as the Blackberry 9700 Series.

Suncorp chief information officer Jeff Smith said after an “extensive evaluation” of the market, Telstra was able to demonstrate that it understood Suncorp’s “unique and geographically diverse service delivery model”.

“As a service-based organisation, responsiveness regardless of geographical location is critical,” he said. “The Telstra offering gives us the breadth of coverage, reliability and technological advancement we require to remain competitive and continue to deliver high levels of customer service, whether our employees are in the office or on the road.”
