blog Frustrated at not being able to buy Google’s Nexus 4 handset (manufactured by LG), which Delimiter recently rated as the best non-4G handset available in Australia? Worry not. LG has just announced the handset will be on sale through Harvey Norman imminently. Praise be. The media release:

SYDNEY, January 24, 2013 – LG Electronics (LG) has announced that the widely anticipated Nexus 4 will be exclusively available through Harvey Norman stores on Optus mobile plans from February 1.

A design collaboration between LG and Google, the LG Nexus 4 was officially launched on Google Play in November 2012, and quickly proved to be a hit after selling out within 20 minutes. Global demand for the smartphone continues to grow, and offering the handset in Australian stores now will give sales another boost.

The Nexus 4 brings together LG’s advanced hardware design, including Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon™ S4 Pro processor, for speed and power. Featuring 2GB of RAM and the latest version of Android® (Jelly Bean), the Nexus 4 is the snappiest Nexus smartphone to date.

“The Nexus 4 is a great example of how LG’s state of the art hardware is innovating in the smartphone market with Google choosing to be its latest hardware partner,” said Lambro Skropidis, General Marketing Manager at LG Australia. “The response in Australia has been overwhelmingly positive on Google Play already, and we know our Harvey Norman partnership will create even greater demand.”

Stock will be available for an outright purchase of $496 in all Harvey Norman stores and on an Optus plan in selected stores. Pricing will be dependent on the customer’s choice of Optus plan; details of the suggested plans and pricing can be found in store and online at www.harveynorman.com.au. Customers can pre-order now for stock available on the 1st February.

  1. $496 (and they don’t say if that’s for the 8GB or 16GB version). Yeah, I’d be waiting for the Play store to have stock again.

    • Also, this is a pretty big kick in the teeth to everyone who’s been trying to buy a Nexus 4 on the Play store over the last couple of months.

“Thanks for trying to order from us, but we just can’t handle that responsibility so we’re going to move our stock through a third party who’ll charge you more.”

  2. Why can’t one order a Google Nexus phone or tablet via the Internet? Why must distribution be channelled through a retail store? Surely we’ve moved beyond this by now? I don’t care if HN are the sole distributor of the best device on the planet, if I can’t parallel import it I’d rather saw off my own feet with a rusty spoon than buy something from HN.

  3. Why is it $496 at Harvey Normal, yet online from Google it is $349+shipping?
Maybe HN are selling the 16GB model, which is $399+shipping – which is still ~$100 more.

  4. Harvey Norman website clearly lists it as the 16GB for $496.

No, they won’t price match an online store. Their best price clearly states
“6. The Best Price Guarantee does not apply where:
    (a) the competitor has an online store only, and does not have a physical retail store in Australia;”

No doubt the Play Store will get stock next month as well. Just a matter of if they sell out within the first or not again.

  5. What i don’t realize is in truth how you’re
not really much more well-favored than you might be now.
