Telstra launches 4G Lumia 920, HTC 8X on way

blog If you are one of those looking forward to the incoming wave of Windows Phone 8-based smartphones to Australia, you’re in for a treat. Telstra yesterday revealed it had started taking orders for Nokia’s incoming flagship Windows Phone 8-based device, the Lumia 920 (Delimiter’s preview here). And better yet: 4G support will be included and there’s even a bonus offer. The company’s Exchange blog reports:

“The release date for the Nokia Lumia 920 is 29 November 2012 and we’re excited to be launching this device in selected Telstra stores … Today we’ve announced a bonus offer if you pre-order online. Pre-order the Nokia Lumia 920 on on an Every Day Connect plan (details below) before November 26 we’ll throw in a portable JBL Playup speaker valued at $199 at no additional cost!”

Of course, although we expect the Lumia 920 to be one of the best, it’s not the only Windows Phone 8-based device launching in Australia. There’s also HTC’s Windows Phone 8X model (Delimiter preview here) — which Gizmodo reports will ship exclusively through Telstra in December, also supporting 4G (contrary to our initial expectations), and the Samsung Ativ S (Delimiter preview here), which iTWire reports will ship through Optus around the same time (although without 4G speeds). The 8X is also said to be launching through Vodafone, and the lesser HTC 8S device through Telstra and Optus.

All told, it’s looking like a very merry Windows Phone 8 Christmas in Australia. We’ve been quite happy with the Windows Phone 7 devices which have passed through our labs recently. It’ll be interesting to see how they perform in the testing process compared with the latest crop of Android and Apple devices.

      • Seems to be a common thing to do with pre-orders and initial sales.
The MS Surface sold out within minutes of launching, as did the Nexus 4 & 10 this week.

No stock figures though, so perhaps they’re just stocking low volumes so news gets around that their devices have ‘sold out’.

  1. There’s been so much hype surrounding this phone, that it almost feels old before its release.

  2. “There’s also HTC’s Windows Phone 8X model (Delimiter preview here) — which Gizmodo reports will ship exclusively through Telstra in December … The 8X is also said to be launching through Vodafone”

Um, have we changed the definition of exclusive?
