Prime Minister’s Dept talks managed services [Sponsored Post]
This article is a sponsored post from our partner Integ. Please check out several earlier sponsored posts by Integ (here and here) to find out more about the company and how it brings innovation into its work.
Peter Docwra is the assistant secretary for the Information Services Branch at Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. In this video published by Integ, he discusses the company’s communications managed services platform.
Why did Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet choose to outsource its communications?
I think it’s pretty important today in the an environment of decreasing budgets and an expectation of doing more with less, that we find the best solution. Also, value for money, in terms of rather than trying to insource a set of skills which are very dynamic, and changing, outsourcing this set of skills and this set of experience was the best fit for the department.
What are the biggest challenges for you as a CIO?
I think there’s several challenges that every CIO faces atm. The first is having your customer articulate exactly what success looks like. That’s important for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, it makes the user really think through what they’re after. Secondly, it gives me something tangible to go out to the marketplace to say well this is actually what we’re trying to deliver. There’s no end of requirements that are put on me as a CIO, competing requirements, unclear requirements, but spending some time defining exactly what success looks like.
What do you look for in a service partner?
I think first and foremost, there’s a passion to deliver the service that’s not just stick by an SLA, but a deep passion to actually deliver the service that we are seeking. It’s a case of not us or them, it’s together we succeed or together we fail. So that cultural fit is very important. At the end of the day, it’s a team approach. Whether it’s my staff or outsourced staff, we’re all delivering on the same requirement, so having that teaming approach is very important.
Why did you choose Integ as your service partner?
With all the provision of commercial services to the Commonwealth have to go through an exhaustive process of looking for value for money, meeting the requirements, the experience to get the job done. Essentially the company met all those three requirements.
