RAA bulks up senior IT leadership

The Royal Automobile Association of South Australia (RAA) has signalled plans to make a series of senior hires to bulk up its IT leadership team in the wake of the development of a new five-year ICT plan.

The RAA has advertised for three positions — manager of ICT Services Development, manager of ICT Services Infrastructure, and manager of ICT Services Delivery, all of which will report directly to the group’s chief information officer, which at the time of writing appeared to be John van Ruth.

According to his LinkedIn profile, van Ruth landed at the automobile insurance and services group in January 2008 after a brief stint as an ICT consultant. Previous to that he racked up roles in some of the biggest names in Adelaide — he was CIO at Adelaide Bank and a JD Edwards project manager at Coopers Brewery.

Ruth has also been chief information officer at Faulding, and has held senior roles at Arthur Anderson, KPMG and Ernst & Young.

In the associated advertisements on the RAA’s site, it said the roles had come about “as a result of the development of a five-year ICT plan and increased management-level expertise to support an expanding range of ICT services”.

The job responsibilities of the roles are divided up in a fairly standard way for senior in-house ICT roles — into infrastructure support (eg desktop, server and network management), development (including web-based services and the management and development of business intelligence and data warehouse technology) and major IT projects.

For several of the roles, the RAA has indicated a preference for applications with membership of the Australian Computer Society.
