Cheers Peter, glad to hear that there's time for a CIO-only session :)

Ultimately I acknowledge that user groups will never have quite the kind of "keep the bastards honest" approach towards vendors that other groups like unions and the press have. It's not quite the role of a user group -- they obviously have close ties with the vendors as customers that they need to maintain.

However, I do think there is room ultimately for SAUG to take a stronger, more independent stance than I have seen it take in the past. I remember the old days, for example, when Oracle bought PeopleSoft ... there were certainly some fireworks between users and Oracle at that point.

I wouldn't like things to ever get to a point where a user group couldn't tell a vendor *exactly* how it felt, if you know what I mean ;)

Make no bones about it: SAP is a supporter of SAUG's CIO Council. SAUG - and SAP - want to open a new channel for two way communication to this important audience. Our expectation is that the Council Steering Committee (a subset of five CIOs) will more actively drive future meeting agendas.

And there's time on the Agenda next week for a CIO-only session, so they can talk about SAP as freely as they like and shape the Agenda.
